Options From School & Uni Days

When studets have finished at universit – finally emerging as a post graduate with that all important degree certificate, life can then suddenly become bewildering.  So much emphasis and energy goes into the years at upper school, getting those GSCEs and A levels, with all the other testing in between.  Once the next phase, the three or four years at a university, are completed, suddenly there’s the need to get a job.  Actually knowing what you want to do is never any easier.  Unless a student has gone into the uni with a defined career in mind and is thus on the right degree or master’s course, many students have no idea what to do afterwards.  It can then be that a student decides to look at teaching.  They need a minimum bachelor’s honours degree but then signing on for a post graduate certificte in education will get them their teaching qualification.  There will still be the essential classroom teaching experience, and the need to work a year as a newly qualified teacher with mentoring – but a long term career is very much available.
